The Lunar nodes changing archetypes is truly significant as it affects us all as a global community and launches us into the next year and a half in which we seek to better ourselves, re-think our past behaviours and re-align with our purpose.
The North and South Node are two invisible, mathematical points at which the Moon’s orbital path intersects with the ecliptic. The Lunar Nodes are always always located in opposite signs, are continuously moving backwards (clockwise) even when they aren’t retrograde. They are deeply connected with our past lives, and the qualities that we have going forwards that aid us in reaching our souls purpose.
South Node (descending node)— represents where we’ve come from. Spiritual knowledge and experience. Everything that we have an innate, and insatiable yearning for. Familiarity. Unresolved karmic lessons. Already mastered, gifts, skills and qualities.
North Node (ascending node)— represents where we’re headed. Opportunity. Materialism. Everything that we have an innate, and insatiable yearning for. Opportunities to change our karma. Unfamiliarity. Areas of growth.
Both Lunar Nodes are just as important as each other, and are balanced in order for us to be guided in the right direction. Without the South Node, we aren’t grounded and launch forwards without direction and lessons, causing us to focus on the ‘wrong’ things that don’t serve our soul development in the best light. Without the North Node, we’re stagnant and lost in a cycle that never leads us towards growth and achievement.
The Lunar Nodes shifted out of their Cancer-Capricorn axis on May 5th 2020, with the North Node entering Gemini and the South Node entering Sagittarius. They will remain here, transiting these archetypes all the way through to January 18th 2022 where the will move into the Taurus-Scorpio axis.
In order to look ahead at this Lunar Node transit, we much look back at the transit that we have just completed. With the North Node having just left the nurturing, private and emotional Cancer and the South Node having left structured, professional and ambitious Capricorn (which they entered in 2018), the focus has shifted from ourselves to the way in which we interact with the world around us.
During the Cancer-Capricorn Lunar Node transit, we were learning to find the perfect balance between work-life and home-life. The South Node in Capricorn reflected our innate drive to achieve and put our best foot forwards in front of a capitalistic and judgemental world. On the other hand, the North Node in Cancer reminded us that we ought to take time for ourselves, family and home-life, because our reputation means nothing if we aren’t emotionally cared for and surrounded by loved ones.
We live in an unfortunate society where sacrificing our happiness for achievement is all too common and normalised. Yet it certainly isn’t a healthy practice, as balance between the two is achievable with both Capricorn-like discipline and Cancerian tenderness. We were spending time redefining success for ourselves, rather than following the words of others. Finding our purpose and place in the world, without neglecting self care and our empathetic nature.
With the Nodes now having shifted into the Gemini-Sagittarius axis, the focus has changed from ourselves to our interactions with the outer world, exuding themes of information and truth! The principles that are to be learned during the nodal transits should be applied to the areas of our birth charts in which Gemini and sagittarius reside. (Pay close attention to the 3rd and 9th houses in your natal chart).
Both Gemini and Sagittarius are information gatherers and sharers. However, they go about things in completely different ways. Gemini is ruled by Mercury, making him a hard thinker and observer with an innate child-like curiosity for the world. Whereas, Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, making him an abstract thinker with a penchant for philosophical ideas. He is intuitive, seeking deeper meaning unlike Gemini who is drawn to fact and logic, which he can absorb and share with others.
During this Nodal transit, our focus should be on facts and truth. We must break the cycle of spreading misinformation and pay closer attention to our sources, rather than getting lost in a whirlwind of information and gossip. The South Node in Sagittarius shows that we have been so preoccupied with our incessant need to spread information, that we have neglected to check the accuracy of finer details. Our desire to be well-informed has turned into an obsession in which we must know everything about… well, everything!
The South Node in Sagittarius represents a world in which we have conformed to wider ideas, culturally, religiously and spiritually. We will be exploring thoughts that we didn’t feel the need to inquire about before. With the North Node in Gemini, this means asking questions rather than doing what we’re told without much explanation. We’re taking control and becoming independent learners by teaching ourselves through practice and experience.
You can tell Gemini that the water’s hot as many times as you’d like, but he’ll still seek to check the temperature to determine that for himself.
Sagittarius rules over ethics, travel and law, making the South Node’s position rather significant during the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re re-learning how to operate on the new groundwork and foundations that have been laid this year. Yet the South Node here provides cautionary reflection on travel and freedom, urging us to rethink our past behaviours which have negatively impacted ourselves and the Earth. The North Node in Gemini provides a gentle reminder that we ought to hold on to what we’ve learned during this time when we move forwards; that being strengthening our relationships with our local communities or even asking how people are and genuinely caring and inquiring about their answers.
The North Node points us towards creating a new reality in which we look at the world through a new (Gemini) lens. That mean’s physical over mystical. Facts over beliefs. We may find a deeper value to communication, in which we are listening harder and taking in both sides to every story before giving our judgement. We’re releasing old beliefs and shedding our skin under the light of the South Node in order to integrate newer visions and perspectives into our lives.
