The fundamental question that often encapsulates synastry and composite astrology, is whether or not two people are compatible. However, this question can’t be reduced to a simple yes or no answer. Relationship astrology is about exploring people’s natal energies and power dynamics so that we can asses how well (or not-so-well) these forces work together. Of course, this doesn’t determine with certainty whether two people will work out or not, but it can give us great insight into which areas of relationships are the stronger and weaker points.
It’s safe to say that Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are Hollywood’s sweethearts. After meeting at a Justin Bieber fan event in 2009, their love story has been followed by millions of eager eyes. Their friendship blossomed into a fairytale romance, leading to a beautiful September 2018 wedding. Having a relationship in the public eye is hard enough, but it’s certainly difficult for two young twenty-somethings at the heights of their careers. Justin and Hailey are two of the most famous faces of our time and from the looks of things, they haven’t had the smoothest of marriages. Here is my composition and synastry chart reading which explores their marriage from an astrological perspective…

Hailey and Justin have composite Ascendant in Capricorn. This tells us that they have been very business minded and career oriented since the beginning of their relationship. They take things slow and steady with each other. This comes from having learned that it’s the best way for them to keep control and not get caught up with life and their hectic work schedules. Their work and aspirations likely caused a fracture in their relationship prior to their marriage. This why is there is now such an emphasis on them taking things one step at a time.
Their composite 10th house in Scorpio reflects a relationship that isn’t what they present it to be on the outside. They are rather secretive towards the outside world and only reveal aspects of their relationship strategically and on their terms. Their close friends and family have always considered them to be a serious pairing. Due to their closeness at a young age, there may have been a secretive understanding that they would end up together if their relationships with other people fell through.
They are perceived as a driven power couple with a world of opportunities in the palm of their hands. Their relationship is largely focused on their public image and reputation thanks to their composite Venus in 1st House. They may find that they over-identify with being the perfect sweethearts. This causes them to base a lot of important and personal decisions on how it’ll affect their image, rather than deciding based on what is best for them as a couple and as individuals. With composite Venus in Capricorn, they may often forget that the foundations of their marriage is their love for each other, as their partnership is a large part of their business (particularly Hailey’s).
Hailey and Justin work together in order to present their desired image to the public. They are highly selective about when and how they show themselves off as a couple. It’s interesting to note that the two have not done any publicity events together. The only time we see them together is through the couple’s social media and the odd paparazzi photo. They want to be perceived as real and relatable to the world. They are a naturally compelling and attention-drawing couple (composite Sun in 1st House). Being on display is part of the basic foundations of their partnership. Losing control of their image would translate to losing control of their relationship. Regardless of any scandal or separation, they will always care and support one another, and have each others backs.
Their marriage is heavily influenced by their reaction to the opinions of others, and news stories about them (Moon in Cancer trine Pluto). Their marriage was the beginning of them attempting to take their power back from the media (Pluto at 0°). Having a private, intimate ceremony and being in control of the release of wedding pictures was important for them. They believed that doing this would set their marriage and new lives together off on the right path (Pluto in Sagittarius).
Their Struggles
Hailey and Justin’s relationship often fluctuates between the really bad and the really good. This causes a struggle with remaining optimistic when things are really bad. When in crisis, they both tend to have thoughts about whether the relationship is worth the struggle or not (composite Sagittarius in 12th House). Despite feeling this way behind closed doors, to the world they keep a strong and untied front during rocky periods (composite Sun in Capricorn in 1st House).
Justin’s Moon in Libra is square Hailey’s Neptune in Capricorn. This indicates a struggle when dealing with important issues in their marriage. They often misunderstand each other and typically enforce low personal boundaries. Both Justin and Hailey aren’t always certain of each other’s intentions and devotion to each other. They both have an internal duality of wanting to be free-spirits while simultaneously wanting to feel a belonging to someone (Justin’s Moon in Libra square Hailey’s Uranus in Aquarius and Justin’s Uranus in Capricorn square Hailey’s Moon in Taurus).
Composite Jupiter square Saturn (1.2°) reflects a problem with being patient with each other and heightened mood fluctuations. Whilst Justin can’t help being overt with his feelings and emotions (Sun and Venus in Pisces), Hailey isn’t quite the same (Moon in Taurus, Mars in Virgo). There are conflicting energies where they both want freedom and structure in differing areas which causes a disconnect. Their composite Moon opposition Uranus shows that as a couple, life often throws the unexpected at them. This causes them to adapt and transition with uncertainty. Their wavering optimism may make it hard for them to deem each other as dependable.
Hailey’s Venus in libra at 29° in the 8th House puts an emphasis on wealth and power accumalted through marriage. Marrying Justin was the ultimate jackpot for securing inheritance, legacy and material possessions. Hailey’s Saturn in 2nd House also reflects her ambition and drive (Saturn in Aries) to maintain her financial and material security. Her Venus in Libra reflects a sense of laziness with acquiring wealth. This could be due to the fact that she was born into the wealthy Baldwin family. She always knew that she would have an even smoother road if she married someone in a high financial position. This doesn’t necessarily mean that her love for Justin isn’t true. However, gaining something from marriage (fame, materialism, inheritance etc.) has always been something of priority to her.
Justin on the other hand, has Venus in Pisces (exhalation) in his 4th House. Venus in Pisces is often a blinded love that would certainly influence him to marry young, regardless of who disapproves. Venus in Pisces often doesn’t see clearly when in love. There is a loss of their sense of ‘me‘ in order to become an ‘we‘. Justin’s Venus shows that he has always believed he would find a sense of comfort that he craves through marriage. He has always desired love and nurturing from a wife. Justin was always drawn to marriage, because it offered a sense of relationship security. He is drawn to the idea of legally belonging to someone (and vice versa). This is often a fear of those who have experienced infidelity in the past.
Justin’s Moon square Uranus suggests that he had an experience during his childhood, that is responsible for his emotional independence. He hates feeling fenced in or trapped by routine in his day to day life (Uranus in Capricorn, 2nd House). Simultaneously, he hates loneliness and finds comfort being surrounded by friends and loved ones (Moon in Libra, 11th House). Justin likely sets the tone and is an authoritative figure in his relationship. He feels as though he should be responsible for keeping the peace in his marriage. It’s likely that he keeps Hailey at arms length, bringing her closer on his terms when he is ready to be loved and pushing her away when he’s ready to have his space.
Composite Venus in 1st house emphasises image in their marriage, and being in control of media representation of their relationship. Being viewed as Hollywood’s sweethearts and the ideal couple is a large part of their identity as a pairing. When they face personal issues together that does not reflect their relationship in the light that they want to be perceived, it puts a strain on their marriage. They care a huge deal about the way that others perceive them. This causes them to lose focus on how they see each other and their relationship.
Their Future
Composite Moon in Cancer in 7th House suggests that their relationship is highly emotional. They likely have had to deal with issues regarding their internal feelings quite a lot. This however, has become something that they’re good at handling (Moon trine Mars). Hailey’s natal Moon in Taurus (3rd House) tells us that she may frequently change her mind about wanting to start a family. She wants all aspects of her marriage to be stable before expanding and having children. Justin’s Sun in Pisces in the 3rd House shows that he is domestic and often fantasises about starting a family. His Venus in 4th House emphasises the tradition of being married before having children. This tells us that he’s eager to have children now that this milestone has been achieved. Hailey on the other hand doesn’t think that simply being married is enough to have children. She is holding off on children until their relationship consistently runs smoother.
Hailey isn’t shy of attention (Sun in Sagittarius, 10th House), and was always likely to marry at a young age, and perhaps before she was truly ready (Mars in 7th House). She is greatly ambitious and has an impulsive nature when it comes to entering into long term contracts and partnerships. However, she is likely to find trouble if she were to ever go to court for divorce. Astrologically, the odds would not be in her favour. She would have a better chance at leaving her marriage happily if matters of their divorce were to be handled privately.
Hailey’s Mercury in Sagittarius Square Mars indicates that she is quarrelsome. Hailey will prioritise coming out of her marriage with as many long-term benefits as possible (Mercury in 10th House). She is very much concerned with with her reputation and has a competitive nature that will prompt her to want to come out of the marriage ‘on top’. Their composite Moon in 7th House shows that divorce would be an emotional experience for the both of them. However, they’d be optimistic that it is the right decisions for themselves and their futures (Moon trine Mars in Sagittarius). This aspect is also an indication that even after a divorce, they aren’t likely to be angry with each other. Even if they were to feel angry internally, they would never express such emotions publicly. Mars in 11th House suggests that their divorce would be driven by their hopes and wishes for a different, separate future. They simply may no longer see themselves at each others sides as husband and wife.
The couples composite Mars conjunct Pluto in 11th House suggests that there will be a struggle with power and control. This is likely to be over the ‘custody’ of their mutual friends and any pets that the couple share. If a divorce were to occur, there would certainly be jealousy on both sides. Both Hailey and Justin would monitor the media to see who they’re hanging out with and where they’re going. Justin’s natural befriending of women (Moon in Libra, 11th House) and the heightened media attention that would surround their divorce is likely to paint a narrative that Justin is seeing other women, causing Hailey to feel as though he has moved on from her too quickly.
