3 Mindful & Grounding Techniques To Align Your Body, Mind & Soul

Grounding is one of the most valuable mindful and spiritual practices out there that allows you to recenter and reconnect to your body. Grounding is the practice of connecting to yourself, your center, and as an extension, the larger system of the earth which is the source and original current through which all things grow. Connecting to your environment and orienting yourself in space and time through grounding practices can reduce stress and anxiety and allow you to cultivate a deep state of presence where you’re inherently connected to and living in the present moment.

Through grounding practices, you can work to balance your Root Chakra — which is your first energy center that can become under or overactive throughout the day or from past stresses and traumas. You’ll also find yourself in a better position to stand on your feet and move forward in life as you cultivate a stronger self-awareness and understanding of how you respond to your environment through grounding. If you're looking for 3 easy grounding practices to integrate into your daily routine, use the following to soothe your pattern of overthinking and align your body, mind, and soul.

01. Reconnect With Nature

Going outside every day, spending time in nature, and unconsciously admiring your surroundings is probably already part of your daily ritual, but how often do you most through this experience with intention and presence? Rather than seeing your walk through the park as a mandatory aspect of your daily commute, use this sacred time as an opportunity to reconnect to yourself and your natural surroundings. Take a moment to slow down and pause, embrace your surroundings, and allow its cleansing energy to soothe the endless streams of thoughts in your head. Make the most of your time spent outside by appreciating the sceneries you would typically take for granted and focusing on what you can perceive through all of your senses. You’ll be surprised how much things can shift when you actively live in the moment and enjoy aspects of your day that you usually move through autonomously.

02. Move And Stretch Your Body

Make conscious movement a part of your everyday routine. You don't need to do an athlete's workout to get grounded (but if that sounds appealing, then go for it!). All you need is 5-10 minutes to focus on shaking away the stress and tension in your body, cultivate strength, and reconnect to yourself. Don't have 10 minutes? There may be far more stationary moments throughout your day than you realize — like when you're scrolling through your phone — where you could integrate gentle movement into your routine. It doesn't have to be strenuous work; try stretching or gentle yin yoga flows.

03. Write Out Your Feelings

It's often difficult to notice troublesome feelings arising within you before you project them onto others, which is why writing down how you feel is a great way to deepen your self-awareness and keep yourself centered. Get yourself a journal if you don't already have one (or make use of the phone’s notes app) and explore your emotional depth and triggers to understand and manage your feelings. You don't have to fill a page with writing every day; a couple of sentences may be all you need to identify what makes you tick or feel disconnected from the people around you.
